Deidre Sabo, Multi- USDG Medalist –
Deirdre R. Sabo is a USDF Bronze and Silver Medalist and an International Sport Science Association certified personal trainer. She is currently an independent trainer for Deirdre Dressage in Central Texas. Her resume includes an apprenticeship with Riding Master Hans Biss in Hamburg, Germany, Head Trainer for Andalusians of Texas in Belton, TX with whom she has won many dressage national championships, the dressage trainer position for the multiple winner of breeder of the year, Rancho Armendariz, and was a personal trainer at the prestgious Golds Gym. She was named 2010 Rookie Trainer of the Year by the International Andalusian/Lusitano Horse Association and was a nominee for the 2010 The Dressage Foundation Teaching Excellence award for Region Nine. Deirdre has won many national titles, all-breeds awards, and regional championships including region 9 champion at FEI Intermediate 1. She has been selected as a demonstration rider for multiple symposiums, including the 2008 HDS Judging Symposium with Stephen Clarke, the 2009 USDF National Symposium with Olympian Jan Brink and the 2013 HDS Symposium with Olympian Steffen Peters and FEI Judge Janet Foy. Deirdre has also been selected as a spokeswoman for Total Equine Feed, appearing in an aired commercial in 2011, as well as a representative for County Saddlery. Deirdre lives in Belton, Texas with her daughter Sandi, and is available for lessons, training, and horse promotion for all breeds and levels at Salado Creek Riding Club in Belton, Texas.
Deirdre Sabo specializes in developing the horse and rider through a systematic approach called “periodization.” This system focuses on developing the pair through a well rounded approach of cross training and classical dressage training. This allows the horse and rider to peak at the ideal time.
Deirdre Dressage is dedicated to promoting and supporting the classical style of dressage training. This training is supported by Deirdre’s belief that the horse is brought along gradually. Deirdre believes in always using the natural way of training the horse and rider. It is very important that new horse owners and riders understand the basic principles of riding so that they and their horse may experience a healthy working relationship. She strives to improve the horse and rider so that they can enjoy their time together with strength and balance. She believes that dressage is the basic knowledge that all riders of all disciplines should learn to enhance their performance. A method should always be used when training the horse and rider and throughout her years of experience she has formulated a method that has been proven.

Justin Briggs, Briggs Performance Horses –
Originally from Fort Pierce, Florida, east of Okeechobee, Briggs moved to Stephenville in 1998. Horsemanship has always been a part of Briggs’ life. He got his start with horses from his grandma, who trained hunter jumpers and dressage horses, while his mom rode cutting horses. Briggs started off in the cutting, started roping in the fifth grade and went on to have a successful roping career in college both heading and heeling. He married World Champion barrel racer Jordon Briggs in 2010, and the couple settled in Tolar, Texas, in 2021. Their business, Briggs Performance Horses, focuses mainly on producing top barrel horses, barrel horse prospects and rope horses.
“The husband and wife team of Justin and Jordon Briggs have worked to establish an unrivaled training program at Briggs Performance Horses,” said Bonnie Wheatley, content director for Barrel Racing Magazine and BarrelRacing.com. “I think Justin’s colt starting series gives barrel racers a unique glimpse behind the curtain into the philosophy and the day-to-day routines from the first ride on through the process of developing the skills and confidence that transforms raw prospects into elite equine athletes. Justin and Jordon do it all themselves and the success they’ve had together is well proven and something we’re very proud to share.”
In his colt starting masterclass, Briggs gives you the information you need to start and bring along your top barrel horse prospect. He uses a thoughtful, well-rounded approach with a focus on quality over quantity.
“We raise two or three a year on our own, and buy some long yearlings. I start all of our colts,” says Briggs. “I put about 120 days on them, then when they’re safe and ride pretty well, Jordon (Briggs) starts putting a barrel pattern on them and I start roping a sled or lead steer on them. Jordon trains everything on the poles, too. Jordon and I run our business top to bottom. We’re not an assembly line.”
